The TTC Birkland table tennis women lost their most recent league home game. The results in the doubles at the beginning played a role.
Birkland – With the change in the game format in the women’s table tennis league (six points means victory), the two doubles were “significantly upgraded” at the beginning, as Lena Berchtold, player at TTC Birkland, emphasizes.
It was precisely this circumstance that proved fatal for the Birklanders in their most recent home game. After the doubles they were already 0-2 behind against TSV Lauf. In the end, this mortgage was too big – the TTC lost 4:6 against the Middle Franconians. The Upper Bavarians won the first leg 8-2.
TTC Birkland loses league game against TSV Lauf
The hosts only won one set in the two doubles matches. The duo Karin Stumpfecker/Julia Wood lost 1:3 (7:11, 11:9, 7:11, 7:11), the pairing Lena Berchtold/Lisa Hetterich had to admit defeat 0:3 (7:11, 5:11, 9:11 ). Things didn’t go well for Birkland in the first round of the singles. Only Stumpfecker was successful in the duel with Lauf’s number two, Sabine Führling, with 3:0 (11:8, 11:9, 12:10). In contrast, Berchtold (1:3), Hetterich (0:3) and Holz (1:3) each lost. We went into the second individual series with an almost hopeless deficit of 1:5.

There the TTC came close again – surprising for the players themselves: “We didn’t expect that it would be so close in the end,” reported Berchtold. She clearly won her game 3-0 (13:11, 11:7, 11:8) against Führling. Stumpfecker won 3:1 (11:3, 8:11, 11:8, 11:7) against the guests’ number one, Emilia Karg. And Hetterich won in five sets over Alexandra Küber (4:11, 11:6, 8:11, 11:9, 11:8). Holz, playing in fourth position, even had the chance to create a draw. However, she lost against Susanne Spörrer 0:3 (9:11, 5:11, 9:11).

In the league table is the TTC Birkland (10:10 points) has now been overtaken by TSV Lauf (11:11) and is in fifth place. At least third place – where TSV Dachau IV ranks (12:8) – is still within reach. The Birkland women will play their next game on Saturday, March 2nd. Then it’s away against the leaders, FC Bayern Munich (22:0). “We’ll do our best to annoy them a little,” promises Berchtold.
