Trump threatens Mail – First Hour

Washington. President Donald Trump said this afternoon that he will not approve a $ 10 billion loan to the United States Postal Service unless the agency increases the rates it currently bills Amazon and similar companies by four or five times.

“The Postal Service is a joke, because they handle packages from Amazon and other internet companies, and every time they deliver a package they lose money,” Trump told reporters at the Oval Office.

The president was answering questions about reports that his administration intends to force major changes to the postal operation in exchange for approving the $ 10 trillion loan that was included in the government’s $ 2 trillion economic rescue package.

Under the bailout package legislation, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin must approve the loan before the Postal Service can receive the money.

Postal Service officials were not available to react to Trump’s comments.

Trump said the changes his administration will insist on will create “a new game” for the Postal Service. He assured that the Postal Service does not want to make changes because it does not want to offend Amazon and other companies.

Looking at Mnuchin during the meeting with the press at the White House, the president told him, “if they do not raise the price of the service they give … I am not going to sign anything and I do not authorize you to do anything.”
