Former US President Donald Trump is accused of failing to register more than a hundred gifts from foreign governments and heads of state totaling about $291,000. Allegations (.pdf) are listed in the report by Democrats from the US House of Representatives Committee on Oversight.
According to them, Mr. Trump’s unregistered gifts included, in particular, gold golf clubs from former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe worth up to $3,755 and a silk carpet from Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev worth up to $12,000. In addition, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner received a dagger worth $24,000 and two sets of swords worth $8,800 from Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia.
Currently, the US Foreign Gifts and Decorations Act prohibits presidents and federal officials from embezzling foreign gifts worth more than $415. By law, Mr. Trump was required to deposit the gifts with the state.
