Donald Trump has denied a report by news website Axios that his campaign team is considering Nikki Haley as his running mate, saying the former Republican presidential nominee is not being considered as a running mate in November’s election.
“Nikki Haley is not being considered for the VP position, but I wish her the best!” wrote Trump on the social media medium Truth Social.
Citing people with knowledge of the matter, Axios reported earlier today that Trump may choose Haley if he believes she could help him win the presidency, avoid a possible prison sentence and cover tens of millions in legal fees if who lost
Haley, a former South Carolina governor and former US ambassador to the United Nations, ended her bid for the Republican presidential nomination in March.
While she has acknowledged that Trump, who has repeatedly downplayed her candidacy, will be the Republican presidential nominee, Haley has yet to publicly state her support for his candidacy.
