SAN FRANCISCO – Currently military tensions continue to grow between the United States (US) and China, as Washington continues to pursue policies to try to dominate global affairs. This tension has been triggered in particular by US efforts to pursue their interests in the South China Sea region.

“There is a steady increase in US Navy exercises in the South China Sea and the Taiwan Strait,” said Mike Wong, Vice President of Veterans for Peace San Francisco, as reported by Sputnik.

He said the US was sending two carrier battle groups together to sail through the South China Sea. According to Wong, it was the beginning, and now the US military continues to send warships to the region.

“We sent out a new missile cruiser yesterday, and of course the Chinese Navy cannot ignore this provocation. Because, even though the US claims that it is ‘freedom of navigation’, it is not freedom of navigation when you send two carrier groups through the South China Sea, it is intimidation, “he said.

“It is a step to prepare military exercises, which you will do if you are going to fight against China or if you are going to block the South China Sea, (from) where 60% of China’s oil comes from and trade is worth thousands of dollars,” he continued.

According to a US Navy news release, USS Mustin conducted freedom of navigation operations in the South China Sea on August 27. The ship sails through territorial waters that China claims as if they were international waters, because the US refuses to recognize the validity of China’s claim to control of the area.

In early July, the US sent two aircraft carriers, USS Nimitz and USS Ronald Reagan, to conduct operations in the region.
