Slovakia wants to deploy 8,000 soldiers and 50,000 officials to conduct corona tests. The country reported Saturday wanting to test all residents aged 10 and older for the corona virus. The government has purchased 13 million rapid antigen tests for this. The first test round should already take place this weekend.
All available soldiers, police officers and firefighters are deployed for the project. Prime Minister Matovic says that as many people as possible must participate in the mass tests for it to be successful, otherwise there is a risk of a nationwide lockdown. It is still unclear whether the tests will be mandatory. According to the prime minister, this has been debated for a long time in a special cabinet meeting.
About 5.5 million people live in Slovakia. Yesterday, the country reported 1,567 new infections. The total number of infections now stands at 29,835.
