Trump Bans Investments In Chinese Companies Contr …

US President Donald Trump bans US investments in Chinese companies accused by Washington of supporting Beijing’s military activities.

Trump signed a decree on this on Thursday. The investment ban will take effect on Jan. 11, nine days before his departure from the White House and his replacement by Joe Biden.

The decree aims to prevent US capital from being used to modernize defense and intelligence services in China, President Trump said.

American investors who have interests in the 31 targeted Chinese companies, including the telecom giant Huawei, have until November 2021 to divest them.

The companies targeted are public and private companies active in, among others, aviation, maritime transport, construction, communication and digital technologies.
