Western sanctions are aimed at Putin and his aides, but they should not harm Canada’s allies, the prime minister said.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau commented on the transfer of a turbine to Germany for the Russian Nord Stream 1 pipeline. According to him, the decision was difficult for the official Ottawa. About it reported Reuters news agency on Thursday, July 14.

According to the head of the Canadian government, this “difficult exception to the sanctions” allowed the refurbished turbine to be returned to Germany, which in fact will be received by Russia.

Trudeau said the sanctions are “targeted at Putin and his aides,” but they are “not intended to harm Canada’s allies.”

At the same time, the Canadian prime minister stressed that Ottawa would definitely continue to support Ukraine in the war unleashed by Russia.

Recall that the Canadian Senate approved a bill by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, which allows confiscation of Russian assets.

It was previously reported that Canada announced $7 million in military aid to Ukraine.
