Ichtegem / Eernegem –
In Eernegem on Saturday afternoon, a truck loaded with 20 tons of tomatoes ended up in the canal along the Ganzestraat. There were no injuries, but the fire service was busy for a long time. The firefighters had to transfer the tomatoes into a container before the truck could be hoisted.

The truck came from a tomato farm down the road. The driver and his daughter left with a trailer filled to the brim. But the right wheels got off the asphalt. The man tried to get his truck on the road, but the soft shoulder gave way and the truck tipped over in the canal.
The fire brigade was called in to transfer all tomatoes into a container. Only then could the hoisting work start. The Ganzestraat was therefore closed to traffic for hours. Moreover, all tomatoes were forced to be destroyed.
