Tribute to Maxime Leroy: Special Meeting Between FC Nantes and Stade Brestois at La Beaujoire

Special meeting this Sunday afternoon between FC Nantes and Stade Brestois at La Beaujoire, on behalf of the 16th day of Ligue 1. Indeed, the host club and the Ultras from the Ligurian den were finally able to pay tribute to one of them: Maxime Leroy, 31 years old. This Canaries supporter was stabbed by a VTC driver near the stadium on December 2, before the victory of Jocelyn Gourvennec’s men, at the time for his first on the bench after the departure of Pierre Aristouy, facing the OGC Nice on the smallest of margins (1-0) to put an end to the Gym’s invincibility at the start of the season.

Then followed the terrible news which caused the Professional Football League and even the Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra to react: the attacked 31-year-old supporter succumbed to his injuries the next day, at 12:25 a.m. Since then, the driver has been indicted for intentional homicide and his lawyers have already commented on the case. And if they could not honor his memory the following weekend, with a trip to Paris (1-0 defeat) – where their Parisian counterparts insisted on displaying a banner to pay tribute to him, the Nantes Ultras found Beaujoire with the Pirates reception. The defeat (0-2), for its part, took second place…

Tifos, banners and wreaths of flowers

Even before the start of the match, the FC Nantes players took their first steps on the pitch for their usual warm-up with a special t-shirt, and an inscription “Maxime forever”. A tunic then worn by the members of the Loire stand throughout the meeting. Interviewed at the microphone of Prime Videocoach Jocelyn Gourvennec did not forget to have a word for Maxime: “There was a tragedy. Unfortunately we cannot erase it. The best we have to do is to have a big match and pay homage in our own way by taking the whole stadium with us.”

And the whole stadium was present to honor him during the match, first with a solemn speech from the announcer: “Maxime, a simple, devoted, funny man, never stopped moving forward for those close to him and the two loves of his life. Unconditional of the Loire stand, Max was a sincere and passionate comrade appreciated by all, he leaves a great void around us. Today, despite the suffering and sorrow, we pay him the tribute he deserves. Farewell Max and from up there, watch over us for eternity. Please respect a minute of contemplation in Maxime’s memory.”

The stadium then respected a minute of silence, before the Ultras deployed a superb giant tifo with Max and the face of the deceased covering the entire stand. Several other tifos were also organized during the match, accompanied by pyrotechnic objects, which should unfortunately earn the FCN a sanction from the disciplinary committee this Wednesday. The setback suffered, midfielder Florent Mollet does not hide his frustration at missing out on success… especially for the late Maxime: “It’s a shame because we wanted to win for our fan, for all the fans here too.” Alban Lafont and the rest of the team then presented themselves to his loved ones in the stands to send him a wreath of flowers and exchange a few words. Successful tribute.
