During the night on Wednesday, the organizers had finally canceled the World Cup, which had already been postponed to February 6, due to the effects of the corona pandemic. The competition in Hawaii is the first in its 43-year history. After the deletion, in 2021 only the already planned World Cup will take place on October 9th.
The two-time champion Patrick Lange also welcomed the cancellation. “It was predictable and a very right decision considering the current circumstances,” the 33-year-old wrote on Instagram. He was happy that the decision was made “as difficult as it may be for us as athletes”.
Defending champion Anne Haug (37), on the other hand, was significantly more disappointed. “Of course I’m very sad about it,” said the first German Hawaii winner to SID. Nevertheless, she showed understanding: “In view of the current situation, the decision is more than understandable.”
