The German Weather Service (DWD) lifted the storm warning of hurricane gusts at 8 a.m. Until Tuesday evening there is a warning of storm gusts of up to 85 km / h, locally 100 kilometers per hour must be expected. Tree branches and roof tiles can fall, warn the meteorologists.

Almost 50 missions on Monday morning

The Dresden fire brigade counted a total of 48 missions until the morning because of the storm. Fire spokesman Michael Katzsch said that the roof of a house in Pillnitz was badly damaged by the storm due to the storm, and that even living rooms were affected. A skylight in Bamberger Strasse in Plauen was in danger of falling.

Mainly the emergency services had to move because of fallen trees. The storm uprooted a tree on the Wolfnitzer Ring in Gorbitz and dropped it on a parked van. The vehicle roof was damaged and the road was blocked. The Gorbitz volunteer fire brigade and the professional fire brigade spent more than two hours removing the tree with the chainsaw.

In Peter-Schmoll-Straße in Kleinzschachwitz, a fallen blue spruce hindered bus and tram traffic. On the Moritzburger Weg in Hellerau, a tree fell into the tram’s track area. And in Striesener Schlueterstrasse, the wind had torn a large tarpaulin including the battens from an empty building.

The storm also blew away the plastic seal on the roof of the Christian school in Dresden-Niedersedlitz.

“Fortunately, no injured people are known due to the storm,” said Katzsch.

Trains roll again, flights fail

Disabilities must still be expected in rush hour traffic. Status of information at 10:34 a.m .:

  • The Deutsche Bahn not only stopped long-distance transport, but also all local transport in Saxony. This means that all Dresden S-Bahn trains came to a standstill. Train traffic has gradually resumed since 6 a.m. All S-Bahn trains are now running again. There are still restrictions in long-distance transport. Among other things, the connection was canceled at 8.10 a.m. to Wiesbaden, 8.46 a.m. to Berlin and 9.09 a.m. to Cologne.
  • The State railway, which travels between Dresden and Görlitz, ceased traffic on Sunday evening. This was decided after coordination with DB Netz, which operates the rail network. Around 8 a.m. on Monday, damage exploration trips with sawing teams on board began. As soon as safe operation is possible, train traffic will resume, said a spokesman. “We expect this in the course of the morning.” The storm caused a number of tree falls.
  • Also the Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn (MRB)which, for example, runs between Dresden and Kamenz and Königsbrück, had stopped operating. Traffic resumed in the morning, the company said. However, delays and cancellations can still be expected.
  • Several Airlines have already canceled flights to and from Dresden. Flights to Munich and Frankfurt are canceled on Monday morning and in the morning. Also Cologne / Bonn, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Amsterdam and Zurich cannot be reached by air from Dresden until noon. A total of 20 take-offs and landings for Monday have been canceled. Air traffic is expected to normalize again in the afternoon.
  • Buses and trams traffic in the Dresden city area is trouble-free, said the Dresden Transport Authority (DVB) in the morning.
  • There are disabilities at the Suspension railway. The operation had been discontinued due to gusts of wind until further notice, the DVB announced in the morning.

  • The Passenger ferry between Pillnitz and Kleinzschachwitz resumed operations around 6.10 a.m., the DVB tweeted. The car ferry cannot continue to operate due to wind gusts.

S-Bahn passengers switch to taxis

The failure of many S-Bahn trains on Monday morning led to increased taxi demand in Dresden. “But we were prepared for this, because Deutsche Bahn had already announced at the weekend that connections would fail,” says Manuela Hommel, head of the taxi center. Therefore, many taxi operators would have placed more vehicles than normal at the train stations and at the airport on Monday morning. However, as there are currently winter holidays, the overall demand is lower. The S-Bahn failure had the result that the trips today correspond to those of a normal Monday, said Hommel.

Power lines stop in the storm

Most of the 4,377 km long Dresden Drewag power grid is underground. Overhead lines only run for 217 kilometers. “But there are no impairments or failures,” says Drewag spokeswoman Gerlind Ostmann. Due to the good condition, the number of failures has decreased significantly in recent years. Of the approximately 150 annual failures in the low-voltage network, around half are caused by so-called external interventions, in which construction workers catch cables with excavators or the shovel.

It continues stormy

The DWD announced on Sunday that the weather in Saxony should not be expected before midweek. “A significant decrease in wind is only expected around Wednesday evening.”

With the calming of the weather, the temperatures should also drop, which again reached double-digit values before the storm. Some weather models already see stormy weather with rising temperatures for the next week. However, the exact developments are still uncertain.
