Treated for glaucoma, singer Fabienne Thibeault explains that she could also develop AMD

Canadian singer Fabienne Thibeault, who will be the guest on the French television show “L’instant de luxe” Monday, February 24, made revelations about her health, as shown in an exclusive extract from the show unveiled by the Non Stop People website.

The one who played the role of Marie-Jeanne in the successful musical Starmania, now 67, spoke of her vision problems, which seem rather serious.

“I’m short-sighted, I’m undergoing treatment for glaucoma and I’m predicted to have AMD,” said “The world is stoned” to presenter Jordan De Luxe. “I may be predicted not to see anymore,” said the singer.

Glaucoma is irreversible but can be prevented

The leading cause of visual impairment in people over the age of 50, age-related muscle degeneration (AMD) affects approximately one million people in France. This multifactorial disease is a breakdown of part of the retina (the macula), which can lead to loss of central vision.

But, although very debilitating “AMD never makes you totally blind since the peripheral part of the retina remains intact. Researchers are working to improve the management of different forms of AMD,” says Inserm.

Glaucoma, on the other hand, if not taken on time, can lead to complete loss of vision. First cause of blindness in France, this disease manifests itself by irreversible damage to the optic nerve, caused by pressure intraocular greater than 21 mmHg.

However, it is possible to eprevent its progression with an adopted treatment or a localized intervention (laser or surgery). Hence the importance of screening, which should be systematic after 40 years, especially in myopic.
