Travel cancellation insurance: In these six cases, the insurer does not pay

1. Quarantine

The authorities are quarantining a city, a hotel complex or a cruise ship. Vacationers cannot leave as planned and have additional accommodation and flight costs. The insurer doesn’t pay. Only an individual quarantine is covered.

2. Einreiseregeln

If special entry rules apply, the insurer does not cover any follow-up costs. So when vacationers at their destination first have to move to a quarantine hotel. Or if the destination country issues such a measure at short notice and the holidaymakers cancel their trip for this reason.

3. Risikogebiet

When returning from a high-risk or virus variant area, vacationers must be in quarantine depending on their vaccination status. If they knowingly accept this, the employer can stop the continued payment of wages during this period. The insurer doesn’t pay. If the destination country is upgraded shortly before the trip and an unplanned quarantine is necessary, he will not accept this as a reason for resignation.

4. Missed plane

If you don’t get your plane because the queue at the check-in was too long, you have to contact the airline to claim damages and prove that you were at the airport at the prescribed time. The insurance does not pay for new flight tickets.

5th train delayed

The insurance usually pays for new tickets if the vacationer missed the flight because public transport was delayed by more than two hours. But: Anyone who has not allowed enough time to transfer from the train to the plane from the outset loses their entitlement to benefits.

6. Angst

Anyone who cancels their trip for fear of being infected with Covid-19 will not receive any money from the insurer.

Tip: Our travel cancellation insurance comparison shows which policies contain additional corona protection and, for example, also pay for cancellations due to pandemics.
