Transport – Bremen – Länder: 3G for buses and trains only with random checks – economy

Berlin / Bremen (dpa) – The transport ministers of the federal states are critical of the planned introduction of a 3G rule for buses and trains with a view to practical implementation. “That can ultimately only work with random checks,” said the chairman of the Transport Ministers’ Conference (VMK), Bremen’s Senator Maike Schaefer (Greens), on Wednesday after a VMK video switch called at short notice, the German press agency dpa.

“No transport company in all of Germany can manage to check all passengers when they get on buses and trains.” This could be different for long-distance transport of Deutsche Bahn, but not for public transport. Some state ministers would have viewed a 3G regulation for public transport and the railways as a whole very critically. “But I think there won’t be much more to shake up with. That’s why I think it’s about practical implementation now,” said Schaefer.

According to the plans of the traffic light parties SPD, Greens and FDP, the 3G rule should come for all buses and trains from the tram to the ICE. The legislative package is in the Bundestag on Thursday. On the same day, the Prime Ministers discussed the next steps in the fight against the fourth wave of the corona pandemic with the Executive Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU).

If the regulation comes, only those who have recovered, vaccinated and tested (3G) are allowed to travel as passengers. From the point of view of the Verdi union and the transport company, the controls should not be carried out by their own employees. Verdi called for trained security personnel to be deployed with the participation of the regulatory authorities.

The Association of German Transport Companies spoke out in favor of security partnerships with the police and local authorities. Effective control of 15 million passengers a day using random samples poses considerable problems for the industry, said VDV Managing Director Oliver Wolff. That also applies to security. “Experience with the control of the mask requirement shows that there is also a high potential for aggression in individual controls. This is to be expected especially with 3G detection.”
