LONDON – The transfer of defender Harry Maguire from Manchester United to West Ham came to nothing. The London club no longer wanted to wait for the English footballer to agree with United on a personal severance package. The Guardian reported about it.
The clubs have agreed a £30million transfer fee, but Maguire has demanded compensation from Manchester for missing out on a significant pay rise following United’s Champions League promotion. He would have worse financial conditions at West Ham, according to behind-the-scenes information, he wanted seven million pounds from his current employer.
In Manchester last season, the 30-year-old Maguire played only eight games in the starting line-up due to injury, and a month ago coach Erik ten Hag announced that he would no longer be the captain. He has a contract until 2025. Maguire has often faced criticism for his performances and if he does not start regularly next season, he is in danger of not getting into England’s nomination for the 2024 European Championship.
Maguire came to Manchester in 2019 from Leicester for 80 million pounds as the most expensive defender in the world at the time.
