Perumbavoor: The four-day National Documentary and Short Film Festival ‘Science 2023’ has concluded. Evening EVM Director CB Malail distributed the John Abraham awards for the best films in science at the closing ceremony held at Cinemas Theatre. Surabhi Dewan and S.A. as the best documentary. ‘Trans Kashmir’ directed by Hanan and ‘Path’ directed by Pradeep Kurba was selected as the best short film.
Film of Resistance Award was won by ‘In a Decent Manor’ directed by Esmas Armadas Zaman and Cinema Experiment Award by Ishaan Sharma’s ‘A Season of Mangoes’. Rupoosh directed by Mohammad Fahmed and Seshan Ameer Khan in the Best Documentary category and ‘Can They Hear Our Song’ directed by Mehdi Jahan in the Cinema Experiment category received a special mention from the jury. 50,000 and a citation to C.N. The John Abraham Award is also a sculpture designed by Karunakaran.
FF for the best films from Malayalam screened at the festival. SI The jury award went to ‘Black and White’ directed by Manilal in the documentary category and ‘Sins Forever’ directed by Nizam Asaf in the short film category. Playwright, actress, director and screenwriter Sajitha Mathil distributed the awards. 2023 FFSI Cinematographer Sunny Joseph presented the Vijay Mulai Lifetime Achievement Award to Premendra Majumdar.
