Police in Germany are investigating possible external influences after the railways in the north of the country closed on Saturday.

The German newspaper Bild writes that security authorities have indications of external influences after thousands of passengers were hit by a train stop on Saturday morning.
Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing has announced that he will make a statement on Saturday at 2pm.
All regional rail connections in Lower Saxony and the Bremen area were affected. Connections to and from Amsterdam and Copenhagen were also affected.
Neither the police nor the authorities have so far confirmed that the railway network has been sabotaged, but the railway company Deutsche Bahn tells the German news agency DPA that it is a case of sabotage.
– Due to sabotage against essential cables for rail traffic, Deutsche Bahn had to stop train traffic in the north for nearly three hours this morning, a railroad spokesman confirmed to the German news agency DPA.
According to the newspaper, these are cable connections to the radio system that must have been stolen or destroyed on purpose.
Avis mirror writes that there must have been a failure in the GSM-R radio network, used for radio communication between control centers and trains, and the digital transmission of route data.
According to Spiegel, there must first have been an outage in a signal cable in a well in Karow in Berlin, before the entire Deutsche Bahn network failed. The newspaper also writes that another cable should have been destroyed in Dortmund.
The trains resumed operation shortly after 11:00 on Saturday morning. There is no information on who is behind it.
