Train – stand-up paddler – woman with two children in distress

On Lake Zug, three people on two stand-up paddles were caught in the current and carried away. With support, they could paddle back to the bank. Nobody got hurt.

On Thursday (August 13, 2020), shortly before 11:45 a.m., the operations control center reached the Zug police the message that three people are in distress on Lake Zug. The emergency services, including the sea rescue service of the Zug Volunteer Fire Brigade (FFZ), moved out immediately.

The three people, a 48-year-old woman, her 11-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old colleague, entered the water between Zug and Walchwil with two stand-up paddles and without a life jacket. After a few minutes they were separated from each other by the current on the lake and drifted towards Arth.

A couple who were in the vicinity became aware of the situation. While the woman alerted the rescue workers, the man also went to the two children on a stand-up paddle.

With the help of the man and the sea rescue of the volunteer fire brigade Zug (FFZ), the three people in distress were able to return to the shore independently. Nobody got hurt.

To ensure that the excursion does not fall into the water, the applicable safety regulations must be observed:

Anyone who drives more than 300 meters out into an open lake with the SUP or is out on a river must have a life jacket with them. Wearing these is not mandatory, but recommended.

SUP do not have to have a registration number (ship number). However, they must clearly bear the name and address of the owner. At night and with poor visibility, SUP must be illuminated with a clearly visible white all-round light.
