Train collision in England – NRK Urix – Foreign news and documentaries

None of the passengers appear to be seriously injured, reports BBC. Police also confirm that no one is dead.

A Center for the Injured is established at St. Mark’s Church in Salisbury. So far, around 13 injured have been reported.

All emergency services are on the scene, according to police in Wiltshire in the south of England. Helicopters hover over the crash site.

Must have hit unknown object

The accident is said to have happened after one train hit an object on the tracks when it came out of a tunnel near Salisbury station. This led to the rear carriage derailed, writes Sky News.

The signal system in the entire area must have been damaged and knocked out when the carriage derailed.

This in turn must have led to the next train colliding with the first.

The Wilshire Fire Department has described the accident as a major incident and has sent 50 firefighters to the scene. And the fire department in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have sent crews.

A special group investigating train accidents has also moved out to the scene.

Train traffic stopped

Other trains in the area have been stopped, reports the companies Southern Western Railway and Great Western Trains.

The former states that they expect the train service to return to normal by the end of Sunday.
