The life of 33-year-old Manfred Langsteiner was abruptly ended in a tragic traffic accident on Saturday evening. The 33-year-old drove his van into a car driven by a 72-year-old. The car was thrown around 60 meters and the 72-year-old was injured. Manfred Langsteiner was thrown out of the vehicle and died at the scene of the accident.
There is deep sadness and bewilderment among the comrades of the Hollenbach Volunteer Fire Department. They lost their popular fire department commander, who had led the fire department with 81 members since January 2021. From 2012 to 2016 he was also the driving master of the Hollenbach fire department and was therefore responsible for the maintenance and care of the motorized devices available in the fire department.
Been with the fire department for 18 years
Manfred Langsteiner joined the Hollenbach fire department on his 15th birthday and shortly afterwards began basic training and the first courses in the area of water services. It was not until spring 2023 that he completed the basic and practical training in fighting forest and field fires and has since worked in the special service for forest fire fighting of the Lower Austrian State Fire Brigade Association.

In addition to his numerous training courses, Manfred Langsteiner took part in over 50 competitions at section, district and state level. He achieved the fire service badge and the water service badge in bronze and silver. In May of this year he and his team earned the bronze badge for the “respiratory protection” training test.
Professionally, Manfred Langsteiner worked for the Austrian Armed Forces as a motor sergeant in the Kaufholz camp in Allentsteig.
