2 Baby Girls Die After Being Found in Bathroom at Streeterville Child Care Center
CHICAGO (CBS) — Tragedy struck at a child care center in Streeterville on Thursday evening when two newborn girls were found dead in a bathroom. The incident occurred at the Bernice Lavin Early Childhood Education Center on the Northwestern Medicine campus.
According to police, officers were called to the center after someone discovered the two babies in a bathroom. Reports suggest that a janitor found the infants in a trash bag while cleaning up blood.
The twin girls were immediately rushed to Lurie Children’s Hospital, but unfortunately, they were pronounced dead upon arrival. The cause of death has not yet been determined, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
In a statement, the child care center explained that a staff member experienced a medical emergency that resulted in the unexpected delivery of the newborn twins. The center is exclusively used by Northwestern Medicine employees.
A spokesperson for Northwestern Medicine stated that no daycare children were involved or affected by the incident. The Chicago Fire and Police Departments were called to the scene, and the hospital is cooperating with the Chicago Police Department’s investigation.
