The 2022 Dakar Rally has come to a tragic end. On the final day of the annual rally race, a mechanic belonging to one of the participants, 20-year-old Frenchman Quentin Lavalée, was killed in a car accident.
The organization of the Dakar announced this on Friday afternoon. Lavalée was driving one of the assistance trucks belonging to Rudy Jacquot, participant in the Dakar Classic and driver of a Peugeot 205 Turbo 16. The PH Sport assistance vehicle collided with a Saudi truck on the connecting road between Bisha and Jeddah. The young French mechanic died tragically in the process.

Lavaléé also had a co-driver in his truck, the Belgian Maxime Frère. He was injured in the accident and was taken to hospital in Jeddah. The Dakar organization says his situation is stable. He would suffer from various abdominal and chest bruises. He will be treated in hospital for his injuries.

The Dakar organization writes the following in a statement. “This morning at about 11:30 am there was an accident involving an assistance vehicle and a local truck. The driver of the vehicle, Quentin Lavaléem, died tragically. The Dakar wishes to express its deepest condolences to Quentin’s family , lovers and PH Sport.”
