Tragic Avalanche Incident in Sunnmøre: Man Pronounced Dead After Being Caught in Langenestinden Avalanche

This is reported by the police in Møre and Romsdal on Sunday morning.

The man was taken by an avalanche on Saturday afternoon. He was taken out and then flown by air ambulance to St. Olav’s hospital in Trondheim.

– The man in his 60s was pronounced dead at St. Olav’s hospital yesterday afternoon, the police said.

The next of kin have been notified. The man is from Sunnmøre.

Tour group notified

The man must have been in a group of five when he was taken by the avalanche. It was these who reported what had happened to the emergency services.

The police have opened a case on the incident and will follow it up.

– Investigations will be carried out. Operations leaders at the site were also able to speak to those who were on the trip together with the man yesterday, says operations manager in the police, Tove Holst-Dyrnes to NRK on Sunday.

Taken from an avalanche during the Langenestiden

It was at 2.20pm on Saturday that the police in Møre and Romsdal reported that a person had been caught by an avalanche on Langenestinden in Sunnmøre.

– One person has been located and picked up from the snow. Work will be done on site, said Tove Holst-Dyrnes, head of operations in the police to NRK around 2.30pm.

Both the air ambulance and the rescue helicopter rushed to the city. At 14.48 the police reported that the person was taken to St. Olav’s hospital in Trondheim by air ambulance.

According to Holst-Dyrnes, they were informed that there was going to be a major landslide.

Langenestinden is 1207 meters above sea level. There is currently a moderate avalanche danger in Sunnmøre.

The person who was caught by the avalanche is taken to St. Olav’s hospital in Trondheim.
