A child was hit by a tram in Bern on Wednesday evening. An ambulance brought the injured boy to the hospital yesterday. The Bern cantonal police have started an investigation into the accident.
On Wednesday, July 1, 2020, around 5:00 p.m., the Bern cantonal police were informed that an accident between a tram and a child had occurred on Effingerstrasse in Bern. According to initial findings, a boy crossed the street in the area of a pedestrian strip at the level of the commercial association tram stop when a tram traveling out of the city simultaneously drove towards Loryplatz. Despite the rapid braking applied immediately, the tram could not be prevented from seizing the boy.
The 6-year-old was injured and had to be taken to the hospital by an ambulance team. According to current knowledge, the passengers in the tram were not injured.
Investigations to clarify the exact course of the accident have been started.
