Four in the afternoon; After a hard day in the construction field, the work was finished. Uncle Muhammad (40 years old) gathered his things with her, while he and 4 young men who were working with him on the “microbus” waited for her to return so that they could reach their homes before sunset, as happens every day. However, fate has a different story. The workers were killed and others were injured as a result of their collision with a trailer loaded with “salt” construction materials before the highway tunnel.
The victims of the highway are (“Ahmed Abdel Salam Abu Antar,” “Mohamed Eid Khalil,” “Hamdi Fathi Nafs,” “Mohammed Fathi al-Jubouri,” and “Mohammed Mahmoud Abu Hassan”). Their ages ranged up to 40 years of age. They were all daily workers in a new city. Under construction in New Cairo, while the rest of the injured are undergoing a hospital to receive the necessary treatment – following the accident yesterday, Tuesday.
Saqqara’s pain has never ended. Its homes were filled with grief over the departure of a family following the fire in their house a few days ago, until it came again with the overturn of a microbus carrying “workers” – livelihoods – before the highway tunnel. Before yesterday, Tuesday, while its victims were 5 bodies: “Those who died were one groom and 3 young men, including 2 suitors and one with 3 children.” Adel, one of the villagers, says in his interview:
At the break of dawn, Uncle Muhammad goes to a generous Lord in order to earn a living for his three children. The 40-year-old travels a long distance until he reaches New Cairo where he works, before the village workers agree with a driver to rent a “microbus” to facilitate the way to and from work. “The microbus arrives at 5 Fajr and he returns with them at 5 Maghrib.” Adel continues his speech.
The five victim workers were from different families in the village, who had a “daily” relationship with a contractor in a real estate construction company, and were related to each other. On the other hand, “the people who died in these countries were mostly relatives.” Adel, one of the townspeople, told Masrawy.
The people of Saqqara village buried 5 coffins amidst the gathering of hundreds of neighboring villages, amid screaming and collapse of the victims’ families, after the funeral prayer for them in Al-Sioufi Mosque in the center of the village, after the prosecution issued a permit to bury the bodies after signing a medical examination on them.
A report was received from the Rescue Operations Room from the Rescue Police stating that a collision occurred between 3 cars on the middle road before the highway tunnel coming from the assembly towards October City, and that there were deaths and injuries.
A security force accompanied by ambulances moved 10 injured people to the hospital and 5 bodies to the hospital morgue at the disposal of the Public Prosecution.
Initial detective investigations reported that a collision occurred between a transport vehicle that was loaded with special construction materials, “Zalt,” and a private car and a Suzuki car, and that the car, upon colliding with the other cars, overturned before the tunnel.
Security forces were deployed on the road, while the General Traffic Department deployed cranes to remove the accident debris from the road and return traffic to normal. Legal measures were taken.
