Tragic Accident at Maradona Stadium: Antonio Scotto Di Luzio Falls to His Death During Napoli-Milan Match

The body of the man found after 2am last night in a tunnel leading to the underground car park, now abandoned, of the Maradona stadium at the end of the Napoli-Milan match has a name. The victim of the accident was called Antonio Scotto Di Luzio, he was 42 years old and lived with his family in Bacoli. And the hypothesis that had taken hold immediately after the discovery of the body turned out to be well founded: a huge Italian fan but without a ticket for the match, together with another friend Scotto Di Luzio had tried to climb over the perimeter wall of the stadium but something it went wrong and he fell from a height of about 20 metres, losing his life instantly.

The work of investigators

The friend who was with him at the time confirmed this version of events to the police. According to the reconstruction provided to the police, the two, without the ticket for the awaited Maradona match, were trying to get to the stands through a tunnel in the old car park under the stadium. The friend of the victim of the accident, according to his story, found a beam in his path that blocked his access and therefore gave up his intention of continuing. The 42-year-old, however, managed to squeeze in and pass through the narrow tunnel. After climbing for a while, however, he fell disastrously and ended up on the ground.

Near the guest sector

The police had been trying to reconstruct the story since last night after reports from some fans who were still in the stadium area shortly after 2am. The exact area where the body was found is that of the walkways below street level not far from the gate to the away section, where last night the AC Milan fans from the Curva Sud who arrived in Naples were crowded together with several hundred Rossoneri supporters arriving from most parts of Italy. The recovery of the man’s body was laborious and this afternoon the Municipality of Naples announced that the grates cut by the firefighters to recover the body will be immediately restored. The Heritage area took action to relocate the protections that had been removed.

Married and father of two children, who was Tony

Antonio Scotto Di Luzio, known to all as Tony, was a well-known person in the Phlegraean town a stone’s throw from Pozzuoli. He was an employee of Eav, a company in the Campania region that deals with public transport by rail and road, he was married and had two children, a boy and a girl. “Our community is deeply disturbed by this morning’s news,” commented the mayor of Bacoli, Josi Gerardo Della Ragione. Who did not hide his “old friendship” with Tony, also recalling “the many matches seen together at the stadium and also away”: “We were season ticket holders in Curva A in the first years of De Laurentiis as president”. Della Ragione added: «His family is a family of respectable people, honest workers. I honestly don’t understand what could have happened last night, what led him to do that. His death is an absurd one”, concluded the mayor.
