Tragedy at Charles University: 14 Killed in Prague Shooting, Day of Mourning Declared

As a result of the shooting at Charles University in Prague, according to updated police data, 14 people were killed. 25 people were injured, ten of them are in serious condition. The head of the Czech police, Martin Vondrashek, told reporters about this.

The Czech authorities declared Saturday, December 23, a day of mourning for the victims.

On December 21, 24-year-old university philosophy student David Kozak opened fire from a self-loading rifle at students in classrooms and at people passing under the windows of the university, and then committed suicide. He fired at least 13 shots within five minutes. According to the police, he carefully prepared his action and used a self-loading rifle. According to the publication Seznam Spravy, he had permission to own several types of weapons. Law enforcement officers suspect that a few hours before the attack, Kozak killed his father, after which he went to Prague, reports TASS. The authorities do not see any connection with terrorism.

“At the moment, there is no evidence that this event is in any way connected with international terrorism,” said the head of the Czech Ministry of Internal Affairs, Vit Rakušan (translated by RIA Novosti).

The portal Blesk.cz writes that residents of the village of Hostoun, where Kozak lived, characterized him as a closed person with a disturbed psyche.
