Trade Mission in London and Lisbon: Boosting Chubut Companies’ International Market Presence

With support from the Government of Chubut, nine provincial companies from sectors such as alcoholic beverages (wines and gin), fishing, sweets (jams), infusions (tea), and non-alcoholic beverages (dietary supplements), held a series of meetings and business rounds through the trade mission, made up of businessmen from all over the country, which began its activities in London, United Kingdom, on October 12 and 13; and which ended on October 16 in Lisbon, Portugal.

“The importance of this mission is placed on the contacts generated with large retail chains in London and Lisbon, in addition to being able to locate the intermediaries that allow marketing with these supermarket chains in both countries,” said the Undersecretary of Industry of Chubut, Nadine. Pannier.

In that sense, he added that “in this type of actions the fruits begin to be seen in the long term, and open the possibility that in the future we can generate a reverse mission both at the private and public levels.”

Activities in London

During the first day, the delegation participated in a series of informative talks on challenges and opportunities in the United Kingdom food and beverage market, contact with buyers, distribution logic, regulations (ingredients, packaging and labeling), competitive advantages, production and sustainable marketing.

Meetings for the winery and gin sector were held at the official residence of the Argentine ambassador; a food and beverage tasting event; and later there were meetings with interested counterparts.

On the last day, visits were made to the Partridges supermarket chains, the Hedonism Wines liquor and wine store, and the most important fish and seafood market: Billingsgate Market. Later they met with the directors of the Board of the Argentine British Chamber of Commerce, an organization that promotes commercial and business cooperation between Great Britain and Argentina.

Agenda in Lisbon

The agenda in Lisbon began with a visit and meeting with representatives of the Continental hypermarket chain. Subsequently, the national delegation presented the event “Trade Mission of the food sector of the Argentine Republic” at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Portugal.

Then, representatives of the Portuguese Investment and Foreign Trade Agency (AICEP) and the Portuguese Association of Distribution Companies (APED) provided a broad overview of the current situation and opportunities in the Portuguese market.

To close the activities, there was a Networking space with Portuguese businessmen in which the possibility of starting business in the short and medium term between both countries was analyzed.

The Chubut businessmen who participated in the trade mission to London and Lisbon expressed their satisfaction with the results obtained, highlighting the support of the Provincial Government that allowed them to be in contact with various forms of marketing and learn about the real market demand of both European countries.

Tamara Rubilar, from Promarine Antioxidants, described this experience as a “success” and commented that “we have had important meetings not only with brokers, but with potential interested parties in purchasing our products.”

For his part, Facundo Ursino, from Magallanes Gin, indicated that “we made numerous contacts” and stressed the opportunity of joining the delegation “since it brings us closer as producers to a market that perhaps otherwise we would not know if we could reach.”

In line with the previous statements, Valentina Bragagnolo from Red Chambers, pointed out that “getting to know this market was a very positive experience and always coming hand in hand with government entities that help us, open doors for us and facilitate contacts with counterparts interested in our products.” products”.

Finally, Sol Miretti, from Cielos de Gualjaina, stressed that “these meetings are essential to understand the market, the type of drinks consumed in those markets, and also to gather valuable information to take into account to insert our products in other parts of the world”.

It should be noted that the Chubut companies that made up the national delegation were Casa Yagüe and Contra Corriente (Trevelin); Gualjaina Skies (Gualjaina); Ill Mondo del Cha, Magallanes Gin, Promarine and Red Chamber (Puerto Madryn); The Little Rib (Rawson); and NatansBerries (Lago Puelo), with the Chubut al Mundo Agency being in charge of making the call for companies, and facilitating provincial participation.
