Toyota has updated its smallest crossover

Toyota has announced a series of updates for the Yaris Cross in Europe, following the facelift of its mechanically related Yaris earlier this year. The subcompact crossover now comes with a more powerful hybrid powertrain, while benefiting from more cabin technology, better insulation and improved safety equipment.

Starting with the new powertrain option, the Hybrid 130 combines the naturally aspirated 1.5-liter engine with a more powerful electric motor, resulting in a combined output of 130 hp. and 185 Nm of torque. The increase in power improves acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h, which is now done in 10.7 seconds (an improvement of 0.4 seconds). The other Hybrid 115 option remains available with 115 hp. and torque 141 Nm.

Externally, the updated model retains the look of its predecessor, with a new Juniper Blue color option added to the palette. The top trim level Premiere Edition features an exclusive Urban Khaki shade, complemented by matching interior accents and a set of 18-inch alloy wheels. The Premiere Edition and GR Sport both use the advanced hybrid powertrain, with the latter featuring a sportier suspension setup courtesy of Gazoo Racing.

The interior is all about technology, with a choice of a 7-inch or 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, complemented by a 9-inch or 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, depending on trim level. The Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system has received improvements, now supporting over-the-air updates and wireless connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Toyota engineers prioritized minimizing noise and vibration to improve overall passenger comfort in the Yaris Cross. In particular, they’ve added a dynamic engine mount, new sound insulation for the dashboard, and an extra layer on top of the hood muffler. In addition, thicker glass is used for the windshield and side windows to further suppress unwanted sounds and vibrations.

Last but not least, the Toyota T-Mate safety kit, which is standard across the Yaris Cross range, has also been enhanced with new and improved features. The hardware has been improved with a new camera and radar that scans farther and wider than before. New additions to the package include a collision avoidance system, acceleration suppression, proactive driving assist, safe exit assist and a rear seat reminder system, and the adaptive cruise control is smoother and quicker than before.
