Susan Sarandon Dropped by UTA Over Anti-Semitic Remarks at Pro-Palestine Demonstrations

Among the main protagonists of the pro-Palestine demonstrations in New York since October 7, the day of the brutal attack by Hamas against Israel, Susan Sarandon it ended in a storm for some statements considered anti-Semitic. At a rally last Friday, the Oscar-winning actress said that Israelis frightened after the aforementioned October 7 massacre “are getting a taste of what it’s like to be Muslim in America.” Overwhelmed by controversy, the 77-year-old was kicked out of Hollywood star agency Uta (United Talent Agency). The news was confirmed by Page Six.

Awarded the Oscar for “Dead Man Walking” and star of the film “Thelma & Louise”, Susan Sarandon also sang the chorus “from the river to the sea” with which the protesters call for the elimination of the State of Israel and the creation of a Palestinian state that extends, precisely, from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean. It is also a rallying cry used by Hamas, which is why it is seen by many as a real one anti-Semitic appeal to the destruction of the Jewish state.

Sarandon had been followed by the agency for almost ten years. Uta looks after the interests of other stars such as Johnny Depp, Harrison Ford, Charlize Theron and directors such as the Coen brothers, M. Night Shyamalan and Wes Anderson. The news was in the air, considering the great social activity of the American interpreter. On the web, in fact, you have repeatedly expressed highly critical positions towards the war waged by Israel, posting accusations of genocide, atrocities and war crimes. On more than one occasion you have supported the theses of Roger Waters, often accused of anti-Semitism.

Sarandon’s statements caused an uproar online. The Muslim journalist Asra Nomani bluntly stigmatized the actress’s position, placing emphasis on the high standard of living led by her and her migrant family in the States. “Let me tell you what it means to be Muslim in America,” began the former Wall Street Journal reporter, who listed the many freedoms she and her parents enjoy. He explained how his father, a professor, was able to obtain a professorship, while his mother was able to not wear the headscarf and open a business in Morgantown, West Virginia: “Please don’t vilify America for life – and the freedoms – it offers Muslims”. For the moment, Sarandon has not released a statement on the dismissal.
