Toyota chooses North Carolina to host its new battery plant

Toyota selected North Carolina as the headquarters of its new automotive battery plant in USA.

The company will invest 1,290 million dollars in this plant that will be named Toyota Battery Manufacturing, North Carolina (TBMNC) and will become operational in 2025.

The factory will have four production lines, each capable of delivering enough lithium-ion batteries for 200,000 electric and hybrid electric vehicles, with the intention of expanding to six production lines for a combined total of up to 1.2 million vehicles per year. .

Toyota’s $ 1.29 billion investment includes funds to develop land and facilities.

While Toyota Tsusho will be partially financed with a total investment of approximately 3.4 billion dollars, an investment that was announced on October 18, this amount does not include funds for the development of land and facilities, and in turn, is expected to generate 1,000 750 new jobs in the United States.

“The future of mobility is electrification and Greensboro-Randolph Megasite is the ideal place to make that future a reality,” said Ted Ogawa, CEO of Toyota Motor North America.

“North Carolina offers the right conditions for this investment, including infrastructure, high-quality education system, access to a diverse, skilled workforce, and a welcoming environment for doing business,” he said in a statement.

Additionally, as the company continues its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality for its vehicles and operations by 2050, Toyota is committed to using 100% renewable energy at this new facility to produce the batteries.

In August, the president of the United States Joe Biden signed an executive order whose goal is that by 2030, half of the vehicles sold in that country will be electric or that emit zero polluting emissions.
