Tourists are no longer welcome in Zeeland from Monday due to coronavirus | NOW

In connection with the coronavirus, Zeeland has decided to no longer allow tourist night accommodation from Monday 30 March. “It is not holiday time, but crisis time,” writes the Zeeland safety region Friday evening on his website.

The ban will take effect on Monday at noon. It was decided to lift the measure over the weekend so as not to overtake the tourists present.

The safety region is concerned by the growing number of tourists in the province, while care in Zeeland – just like in the rest of the country – is under great pressure.

“The influx of a large number of visitors means that this pressure is becoming irresponsibly large,” explains the Zeeland Safety Region. “The risk of a shortage of this care capacity is not acceptable and would also pose a risk to those visitors.”

Day trippers are also asked not to come to the province. By closing public toilets in tourist spots, the safety region hopes to make a visit to Zeeland unattractive.

The measures will be reassessed no later than 10 May.

The coronavirus in short

  • The coronavirus mainly spreads from person to person via sneezing and cough drops. The chance of becoming infected through surfaces such as door handles is small. This chance decreases if you wash your hands often.
  • You can considerably reduce the chance of spreading by keeping at least 1.5 meters away from others.
  • An infected person infects two to three others on average. Precautions are necessary to contain this.
  • The vast majority of patients have mild (flu-like) complaints.
  • Almost all deaths involve the elderly or other vulnerable persons, such as heart, lung or diabetes patients. If everyone complies with the measures, this reduces their risks.
