It is without Chris Froome – who will target the Tour of Spain – and Geraint Thomas – appointed leader on the Tour of Italy – that the Team INEOS will show up at the start of Tour de France at Nice August 29th. Egan Bernal will therefore be the only leader of the British formation and will have a completely free hand to aim for a second consecutive success on the Big loop. Announced on the Round, Richard Carapaz will finally do it Tour de France and will be responsible for supporting his South American teammate. The six other runners selected for the Big loop are Andrey Amador, Jonathan Castroviejo, Michal Kwiatkowski, Luke Rowe, Pavel Sivakov and Dylan van Baarle.

Determined to make the colors of the Team INEOS on each of the three Grand Tours, the general manager Dave Brailsford explained the choices made on his team’s website. “I’m very proud that we have several current, and I’m sure future, Grand Tour champions on the team. Selecting the right leader in the right race and with the right team is essential and has required us to analyze all the latest information to make sure we are in the best possible position to optimize our performance in the coming months […] We have taken a close look at how we can win the Tour de France this year and we have a passionate team, united by a common goal and ready to get the job done.

“Egan will be aiming for the yellow jersey again in France and we are very happy to give the opportunity to last year’s Giro winner Richard Carapaz to make his Tour debut. Geraint will aim for the Giro and will try to seize the opportunity to double his victory on the Tour de France with another coronation on a Grand Tour, in order to be the first Welshman to win it. For his part, Chris Froome will aim for the Vuelta. Chris is a legend of our sport, a true champion who showed incredible courage and determination to come back from his fall last year. We want to support him so that he can win another Grand Tour and doing the Vuelta will give him a little more time to continue his comeback at the top level. “
