Tottenham Hotspur failed to score points at home Brighton & Hove Albion in week 33 Premier League. The Lilywhites bent 0-1.
Playing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, Saturday (16/4/2022), Tottenham received fierce resistance from Brighton. The first half closed 0-0.
In the second half, Tottenham finally conceded before normal time ran out. Leandro Trossard scored for Brighton in the 89th minute, sealing victory for Graham Potter’s men.
The defeat made Tottenham still stuck in fourth place in the Premier League standings with 57 points. While Brighton rose to 10th position with 40 points from 32 matches.
The course of the match
Tottenham made Brighton trouble early on. The visitors appear disciplined.
Although Tottenham could press in the early minutes, there was no chance of endangering Brigthon’s goal. On the other hand, Tariq Lamptey et al could threaten Hugo Lloris’ goal.
Several opportunities were created by Marc Cucurella and Joel Veltman, but have not yielded results. While Tottenham struggled to make a counter-attack, with his efforts to be muted from midfield.
Towards the end of the first half, Brighton was able to make shots on goal through Enock Mwepu. Lloris can still anticipate his right foot kick. The score 0-0 lasted until the break.
The second half rolls on, Tottenham Hotspur try pressing directly. In the 51st minute, Son Heung-min had a chance with a left-footed shot in the penalty box, but his effort was blocked by a player. Brighton & Hove Albion.
Buying and selling attacks occurred in the second half. Brighton also pressed a lot through Danny Welbeck, who came on for Mwepu in the second half. Meanwhile, Tottenham are still struggling to dismantle their opponent’s defense.
In the midst of that frustration, Tottenham finally conceded. Brighton’s tireless efforts paid off through goals scored by Leandro Trossard.
In the 89th minute, Trossard can win a wild ball in the penalty box. With one swipe, he brought the ball on the left side of the Tottenham goal, and released a placing kick to the far right side post. The ball failed to be dammed Lloris, and into the goal. The 1-0 score for Brighton lasted until the game broke up.
