“Tornado Causes Destruction in New York: Damage Report and Power Outages in Sullivan County”

NEW YORK — A tornado wreaked havoc in parts of New York on Saturday as a series of thunderstorms impacted the tri-state area and dumped rain overnight, authorities confirmed.

There were several storm damage reports detailing downed trees, power lines and extensive destruction in Sullivan County, a couple of hours north of New York City.

National Weather Service meteorologists surveyed parts of the county Sunday and confirmed that a tornado was to blame for the previous night’s destruction.

The storm blew the roof off a building, uprooted trees and downed some power lines that left Roscoe, a village in Sullivan County, with virtually no power. An estimated 15,000 customers lost power during the height of the storm’s activity.

At Callicoon Center, people were reportedly trapped inside a home when it was hit by a potential tornado. two barns in Apple Pond Farm they also suffered heavy damage.

There were no immediate reports of injuries from the bad weather on Saturday.

The National Weather Service said surveyors would be in Roscoe, Callicoon Center and Jeffersonville on Sunday morning. A more detailed report of tornado activity is expected later in the day.
