Top talent Rossi positions himself for NHL draft

Austria’s ice hockey talent Marco Rossi set another milestone in his young career in the Canadian junior league OHL on Tuesday. The 18-year-old Vorarlberger scored a goal and three assists in the 9-1 home win of his Ottawa 67s against the Niagara Icedogs and now leads the points standings with 120 scorer points (39 goals, 81 assists).

Rossi discontinued the brand of Connor McDavid, meanwhile superstar of the NHL, from the 2014/15 season. Rossi is the seventh player in the past twelve years to score at least 120 points. The center is also the number one nationwide among all players in the three major junior leagues (OHL, QMJHL, WHL). Alexis Lafreniere followed in second place with 112 points. The Rimouski Oceanic striker is ranked number one in the NHL draft in late June, Rossi is considered a candidate for the top ten.

Meanwhile, Rossi is also considered the designated successor to the recently resigned Thomas Vanek, who has represented Austria in the world’s best ice hockey league for more than 14 years and recently announced his retirement.
