Naples, metro accident: on line 1 collision between two trains

Three trains of Metro line 1 of Naples they met around 7:45 in the morning, just outside the Piscinola station. There are several injured, none of whom are life threatening. Only one hospitalized person, it is a train driver with a chest trauma and emotional shock. The other six injured have been discharged. The movement of trains has been suspended on the entire route.

The fight

The rear-end collision occurred this morning and involved a convoy that had just left the depot, one that had already loaded passengers on board (it had just left platform 2 of the Piscinola station) and a third train, still without passengers. The impact between the Colli Aminei and Piscinola stations, at the height of the bottleneck after the Colli Aminei stop. The collision would have blown up three doors of the convoy.

The cause of the accident: the first hypotheses

According to a first reconstruction, the driver of the second train would have lost control of the train and, for reasons yet to be clarified, would have buffered the train that preceded him in the station. A third convoy would then hit the two already damaged. It has not yet been possible to reconstruct the dynamics more precisely, nor identify the objective causes of the clash. At first it was hypothesized that the failure to comply with a stop signal originated the rear-end collision, but the news has not yet been confirmed.
