University ranking: Top results for the industrial engineering course at the TU Ilmenau
Students of the master’s degree in industrial engineering at the Technical University of Ilmenau are very satisfied with their studies. This was the result of the current CHE university ranking, the most comprehensive independent ranking of its kind in German-speaking countries. For the ranking published today (December 1st, 2020) on ZEIT Campus 01/2021, students rate their own study conditions themselves. With their grading for the general study situation in the industrial engineering course, they catapulted the TU Ilmenau into the top group of all 41 listed German universities .
For the current university ranking of the Center for University Development (CHE), the industrial engineering students at the TU Ilmenau should answer the question on a scale from 1 (very good) to 6 (very bad): “How satisfied are you with the general study situation in your department ? ”With an average of 1.5, the result is one of the best of all German universities. The Vice President for Education of the TU Ilmenau and at the same time dean of the Faculty of Economics and Media, Prof. Anja Geigenmüller, is pleased with the excellent evaluation of the students: Students of this degree program switched to the TU Ilmenau for their master’s degree. Unlike many other students, they are therefore able to compare them with the study situation at other universities. In this respect, the grade 1.5 is a special distinction for the TU Ilmenau. “
The grade 1.6 for the criterion “study organization” proves that the students perceive their master’s degree to be extremely well organized. In doing so, they evaluate, among other things, the coordination of the course offerings and the access options to courses. The TU Ilmenau is also in the top group of universities with a grade of 1.8 for the criterion “scientific relevance”. This includes the reference of the course to central and innovative research results, methods of scientific work as well as the training of scientific thinking and the stimulation of one’s own critical reflection.
The same grade of 1.8 was given by the students of the industrial engineering course in the “Study support”. In doing so, they assessed information on organizational issues relating to their degree program, the TU Ilmenau’s mentoring system and the accessibility and completeness of materials for courses and exams.
The fact that the students felt comfortable in their studies is also demonstrated by the fact that they achieved their master’s degree in a reasonable amount of time, i.e. in the standard period of study plus a maximum of two semesters.
The CHE university ranking
The university ranking of the Center for Higher Education Development (CHE) is the most comprehensive and detailed ranking in the German-speaking area. The universities are divided into a top, middle and bottom group for each subject and criterion. In addition to facts about studies, teaching and research, the ranking includes judgments by students about the study conditions at their university. Every year different subjects are examined, this year industrial engineering, business informatics, economics, business administration and economics.
