In basketball, a tall player’s effectiveness is often determined by his abilities in so-called “pick and roll” or “pick and pop” situations. In the most classic version of this combination, the tall player covers the perimeter basketball player from his team and then either goes to the basket or stays on the long throw line.
“Sportradar” has collected data on attacks when two basketball players cooperate, in which a cover is used and a scoring situation occurs. A duo needs at least 150 such episodes this season to qualify for the chart.
The most effective “pick and roll/pop” duo of the first part of the NBA season was the pair of Indiana “Pacers” – Tyrese Halliburton and Miles Turner. They averaged 1.29 points per pick and roll/pop situation. Immediately behind them is the duo of Porzingis and Jaylen Brown.
This year’s best NBA duos in pick and roll/pop situations:
Porzingis himself has averaged 20.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game.
On the other hand, “Celtics” with a record of 43-12 ranks first in the entire NBA.
