Top 14: two cases of coronavirus in Montpellier, a positive player in Agen

The Agen club announced on Wednesday the positive case of one of its players with Covid-19 which does not, for the time being, call into question the holding of the match against Castres scheduled for Saturday on behalf of the 1st day of Top 14. “As part of the Covid-19 health protocol set up by the National Rugby League for all Top 14 and Pro D2 Clubs, the results of one of his players led the Club to isolate him immediately as a precaution, “the Agen club said in a statement.
The positive player, whose identity has not been disclosed, was placed in the fortnight. His state of health does not cause any concern.

The SUA, which has carried out a new series of tests from which it is awaiting the results, specifies that as “less than 3 players in the professional group have tested positive for RT-PCR tests over a sliding period of 7 days”, in application of the health protocol and recommendations of the expert commission of the LNR, “the rest of the group continues its preparation for the Agen-Castres match”.

A staff member and a Montpellier player also positive

Montpellier also announced Wednesday that one of its players and a member of the management were positive for Covid-19, two days before the resumption of the Top 14 and the reception of Pau, which is not yet not questioned. “Montpellier Hérault Rugby formalizes today a case in its professional workforce and a case among its technical staff. The two people concerned were immediately isolated from the rest of the team,” said the statement.

As a result, the entire workforce will undergo new tests on Thursday morning and the MHR will unveil the results during the day. For the moment, the first meeting of the season against Pau, brought forward to Friday, is not called into question. “Knowing that less than three players of the professional group have tested positive over a period of seven days, in accordance with the health protocol and the recommendations of the committee of experts of the NRL, the meeting is to this day maintained”, also assures the press release .

This is the first positive case within the squad led by sports manager Xavier Garbajosa, even if Montpellier could only play one of these three preparation matches against Aurillac (Pro D2). A few days before the resumption of the Top 14, several clubs have been particularly affected by the new coronavirus. According to the protocol established by the NRL, three positive cases within one and the same club three days before a meeting will result in its postponement. The meeting between the French Stadium and the Union Bordeaux-Bègles, which was to be played on Friday, has also been postponed.
