The problem of car theft in Italy is skyrocketing, but there are some models which, more than others, are particularly targeted and require maximum attention.

Compared to the pre-pandemic period there was a peak of 4% with an incidence in 5 Italian regions. Thefts in general have increased from 33 to 47%, among the most popular models now there are SUVs but not only.

Cars are mostly stolen in Campania 33%, Lazio 24%, Puglia 21%, Lombardy 12% and Sicily 2% so these are the areas most at risk. What is interesting is also to note how the model changes according to the place and also what is the purpose of the theft.

For example, in northern Italy SUVs are stolen, these are mainly intended for sales for the European market, instead in Puglia car thefts are mainly connected to the spare parts market and this means that the most popular models are also those most famous, in Campania car theft is intended for ransom to get the car.

According to the data of Ministry of the Italian Interior, the most stolen car models in Italy in 2021 they were: Fiat Panda, Fiat 500, Lancia Ypsilon, Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus, Citroen C3, Opel Corsa, Renault Clio, Toyota Yaris.

Today the technology it certainly represents an important aid in making cars safe even if, as the official framework attests, this does not discourage nor even stop thieves who manage to obtain the cars anyway with increasingly advanced systems. Obviously it is essential to arrange all the necessary elements to stem the phenomenon, paying particular attention to the cars mentioned above which are real bait for criminals.
