Numerous inflammations in the body are caused by bacteria that are deposited in the cells of the oral mucosa and on the teeth. The build-up, known as “plaque”, can increase the risk of a stroke or a heart attack by promoting the “calcification” of arteries. Scientists at the “College of Medicine” at “Florida Atlantic University” in Boca Raton, USA have now investigated whether the use of a special toothpaste can reduce the risk. They published their results in the specialist journal “American Journal of Medicine”.
The protein “hs-CRP” is considered a decisive measure of the risk of heart attack and stroke. It supports the body’s immune system against pathogens. The research question was whether the value of this protein can be reduced statistically significantly by the newly developed toothpaste and thus the risk of disease falling.
Toothpaste for heart attack: how does the cream work?
According to the research, the newly developed toothpaste can actually reduce the risk.
The toothpaste “Plaque HD” can mark areas with extreme “plaque” in color. This shows where particularly thorough cleaning is required. To test this, the researchers had two groups brush their teeth over the course of 30 days using the same instructions. The difference: One group received the “Plaque HD” toothpaste, the other a conventional toothpaste.
