Too late for the kitchen? 100 euro fine, as appears in ‘Yes, chef!’ | TV

TVIt may be the blackest catering year ever, but it does not prevent FOUR from making a reality series about top chefs. In “Yes, Chief!” five hyper-ambitious cooking talents are followed in their fight for that one common goal: a Michelin star.

Thijs Vervloet (30) of restaurant Colette in Westerlo is the only one in the company to receive a star – at the age of twenty-six. But the most striking of the five participating chefs is undoubtedly Pajtim Bajrami (30) from restaurant De Stadt van Luijck in Sint-Truiden. The young chef with tattoos and Kosovar roots rules his kitchen with an iron hand. When he is not busy himself, he keeps an eye on all his employees via a screen in the kitchen. “If someone talks too long, they will hear it.” He also has his own fine system. “Arrive too late? Forgotten tweezers for training? Then that’s 100 euros. I am the ‘Big Brother’ of the restaurant”, Bajrami laughs. The chef wants three stars, and preferably as soon as possible. There is also a personal reason to this. “My parents have never come to eat in the restaurant, they have never even seen me in a chef’s jacket. My father only wants that when I have my first star.”

The recordings started in June of this year when the restaurants were allowed to reopen after the first corona wave. The three other chefs are Lode De Roover from Fleur de Lin in Zele, Filip De Pauw from Jerom in Antwerp and Martijn Defauw from restaurant Rebelle in Kortrijk.
