Tomorrow’s Total Super Blood Moon eclipse, this is advice from BMKG

TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta – Head of the Geophysical Station of the Yogyakarta Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Ikhsan Pramudya, asked local people who would like to witness the super-blood moon phenomenon to get ready starting at 18 WIB. The super-blood moon phenomenon is total lunar eclipse which occurs when the moon is at its closest distance from the earth, aka supermoon.

This phenomenon will occur Wednesday, May 26, and will be the only thing that has happened this year. The last super-blood moon occurred on January 20-21 2019 and will only happen again later in May 2022. “To see the super blood moon phenomenon, you can do it with the naked eye, but you should be prepared from 18.00 WIB,” said Ihsan when contacted, Monday 24 May 2021.

Ihsan explained that the recommended time at 18.00 WIB or since the beginning of the month of publication was taken so that the public could get the maximum possible process and get the best momentum. The duration of this phenomenon is predicted to occur around five hours, starting from the initial phase of the moon entering the shadows of the earth’s penumbra until leaving it again. While the total lunar eclipse phase will occur 18 minutes 44 seconds.

“Starting at 18.00 it can be fully observed, how the peak process of the total lunar eclipse occurs until the end,” said Ihsan.

BMKG Yogyakarta plans to observe the astronomical phenomenon of the total lunar eclipse. Monitoring will be carried out from the top of the radar building of the BMKG Yogyakarta climatology station, Jalan Kabupaten, Sleman, Yogyakarta. “It can be seen from any point as long as the location is not covered by buildings or trees,” said Ihsan again.
