Toll Skipper Jusuf Hamka Buys Chery Omoda E5, What’s the Fate of Wuling Air EV?

Toll road boss Jusuf Hamka is again buying up electric cars to be used as toll road operational vehicles. This time, Jusuf Hamka bought the Chery Omoda E5.

Last year, Jusuf Hamka actually bought around 30 Wuling Air EV units. The plan is for the Wuling Air EV electric car to be used as a toll road operational vehicle. However, the reality is that the Wuling Air EV cannot yet be used as a toll road patrol car.

“This (Chery Omoda E5) is for toll road patrols because it’s big. Wuling was originally for patrolling, but didn’t get permission to regulate the toll road because it was too small, afraid of blind spots. The trucks’ blind spots don’t see small cars like that, right. “Chery is an SUV and it’s as big as a Toyota, as big as a BMW as big as an Ioniq,” explained Jusuf Hamka to detikOto, Wednesday (6/12/2023).

So, Wuling was canceled as a toll road patrol vehicle because its dimensions were too small. So where is the Wuling Air EV electric car that Jusuf Hamka bought?

“Wuling has been divided up. Finally it was distributed to the Golkar DPDs. If Chery is for our patrols, I bought it for my own company,” he said.

Later, the Chery Omoda E5 will be used on six toll roads owned by Jusuf Hamka. These toll roads include the Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan (Cisumdawu) toll road, Bogor Ring Road, Cawang-Tanjung Priok, Soreang-Pasirkoja toll road, Depok-Antasari toll road, and Waru-Juanda (Surabaya) toll road.

Jusuf Hamka just ordered 70 units of Chery Omoda E5. He plans to add more car orders.

“The need for our six toll roads is around 200,” he said.

Chery actually hasn’t revealed the price of the Omoda E5. The price of this car will be released next February, possibly at IIMS 2024. Even so, Jusuf Hamka has already received a leak about the price of this electric car.

“The price if he gets the TKDN facility (10 percent VAT subsidy) is around IDR 500 (million), if not (gets the VAT subsidy) it’s around IDR 600 (million),” he said.

“The Ioniq alone is already Rp. 750 million. This is also Chery, if he has TKDN it could be Rp. 500 (million). Even if it is Rp. 600 million (the price) is at least half that of a Toyota (bZ4X) and a quarter of the price of a BMW and Lexus,” he said .
