Hardly anyone expected such a great performance by Dawid Tomala. The Polish walker won a gold medal that was hard to predict. The 31-year-old Polish walker did brilliantly and was still struggling to increase his advantage over the rest of the stake. Until the very end, Tomala tried to slow down as little as possible and skillfully managed his strength.

The advantage of the Pole 10 km before the end of the race was nearly three minutes, which must have been impressive. The rivals tried to chase Dawid Tomala, but the walker from Tychy did not lose his advantage. Despite the murderous walk at 30 degrees Celsius, our representative maintained his lead.

It is worth mentioning that the competition with the participation of David Tomala did not take place in Tokyo, but in Sapporo. The gait was shifted due to the heat in the Japanese capital, but the temperature was not much colder. Each of the walkers must have felt the hardships of the competition.

When Dawid Tomala seemed to be losing strength and his pace was slowing down, Polish fans had the right to be concerned about the result of the Polish walker, but the measurement six km before the end of the race showed that the lead had grown to three minutes and eleven seconds. This meant that the rivals chasing Tomala were also weakening.

Importantly, the 50 km walking competition in Tokyo was held for the last time in the history of the Olympic Games. During the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, this competition will not take place, which means that Dawid Tomala became the historic last Olympic champion in this competition. The Pole went down in history and joined the group of Polish medalists, winning the eleventh medal for the White and Reds at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The very podium of Dawid Tomala would be perceived as a big surprise, because the Pole has not been among the world’s best lately. Proper training, however, brought him the greatest success, which is a place on the highest stage of the podium. The gold medal for David Tomala is one of the biggest surprises at the Tokyo Olympics.
