Young mother
Growing up with a young mother was very pleasant for Bianca, especially during her adolescence. “It was a kind of combination between a friendly and a mother-daughter bond. Friends often came to our house and she often accompanied me when I went away with my group of friends. We could talk to each other very well and shared everything with each other. And we still do that.”
Pregnant
Bianca’s pregnancy was not completely planned. In fact, she was on the pill. “The fact that I was pregnant at the age of seventeen, just like my mother, was – just like her – not conscious. But when I found out I was pregnant, I didn’t hesitate for a second whether I wanted to keep it. My boyfriend at the time did; he initially wanted it, but when it started costing money that changed. Pretty soon afterwards he decided he didn’t want anything to do with it anymore. Actually just like twenty years ago with my father, who was also not in the picture.”
Immediately after the second positive test, Bianca tells her mother that she is pregnant. “I asked her to sit down for a moment and then she actually already knew. She immediately started the conversation very openly and told me what my options were. But I didn’t want to hear anything about an abortion pill: I knew, this is my baby and I’m going for it. And that was also immediately accepted by her. We would go for it together. I mainly thought: she did it too, so why couldn’t I?”
Enjoying being young
2.5 years ago Bianca became the mother of her son Levey. She currently lives with her mother and, in addition to motherhood, she is also trying to enjoy her younger years. “I’m studying, which is quite tough with a child. I also really enjoy being young, so I sometimes go to the city with friends or to the beach. That need is there. In that respect, I am very lucky that I still live at home and that my mother is home a lot. This means that when Levey is in bed I can still go where I want.”
