Timo Werner has made his debut for Tottenham Hotspur. How was the German striker’s first appearance?
After being loaned by RB Leipzig last week, Werner was immediately installed as a starter when Tottenham visited headquarters Manchester United at Old Trafford, Sunday (14/1/2024) evening WIB.
Werner together with Richarlison and Brennan Johnson led the attack line. However, Tottenham had to fall behind quickly in the third minute when Rasmus Hojlund scored a goal.
Tottenham equalized the score through Richarlison in the 19th minute before Marcus Rashford put MU ahead again in the 40th minute. Rodrigo Bentancur made it 2-2 a minute after the break.
No goals were scored until the end of the match so both teams had to be satisfied with a score of 1-1. Werner, as a debutant, was in the spotlight in that match considering that he replaced Son Heung-min, who had to be absent because he was playing for the South Korean national team in the Asian Cup.
Werner played 80 minutes before being replaced by Bryan Gil. So what was Werner’s first appearance like? If you could say it was satisfying, even though he had to hone the final solution again.
Werner played like Werner, fast and agile on the left side of the field, but poor at completing opportunities. Even though he is the Tottenham player with the most shots, five, none of them were on goal and he touched the ball the most in the penalty box, namely 10 times.
Even though he failed to score, Werner at least had a hand in Bentancur’s goal because the ball came from his pass. The total of one assist equals his assist record with Chelsea in the 2021/2022 season, namely one in 21 matches.
“First of all I’m very happy to be back here. It’s a pleasure to play here. Today it was proven that this is the best league with its tempo and play. I really enjoyed it. “As an attacking player, you definitely want to score goals. But it’s also good if you can make assists.”
