“Time to get to work”: Dutch former minister Ronald Plasterk officially appointed as the new scout

According to Chamber President Vera Bergkamp, there is “broad support” for Plasterk’s appointment. According to PVV leader Wilders, he is suitable as a scout because he no longer holds a political position. He was Minister of Education for PvdA.

With a background as a molecular biologist, he now regularly shares his views in a column in De Telegraaf, in which he often distances himself from the views of the PvdA. Plasterk confirms that he will no longer write columns “as long as I have the role as scout”.

Most parties have no objections, only the Denk parties and the Party for the Animals have expressed negative views.

Denk faction leader Stephan van Baarle has already indicated that he does not wish to speak to Plasterk. “Denk will not enter into discussions with the messenger of the extreme right. Wilders’ PVV undermines the rule of law and wants to discriminate against Dutch Muslims. We believe in a resilient democracy. That is why we want Mr Wilders to be deprived of the initiative and we will boycott this exploration. “
